Robert Whiddon

June 25, 1943 — April 25, 2025

James Robert Whiddon, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Langdale Hospice House. Known affectionately as Robert, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who lived life with joy, humor, and a deep love for his family.

Robert was a standout athlete in his younger days, proudly serving as quarterback for the Thomasville High School Bulldogs. He later played softball alongside his brother Charlie on their self-sponsored team, Phillips 66—creating memories that became cherished stories he loved to share. He went on to earn a living as a mobile home mover, a job that allowed him to travel extensively across the United States. He took great pride in those journeys, always eager to share stories of the places he’d seen.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Robert was a devoted fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, Florida State Seminoles, and Atlanta Braves. When not cheering on his teams, he could often be found at a water hole, fishing for the next biggest catch. He was also a horseshoe-throwing champion (TUAH!) and, in his younger years, a drummer with an obvious knack for rhythm. But perhaps most memorable was his undeniable love for dancing—he never missed a chance to tear up a dance floor.

Robert’s warmth, humor, and unmistakable presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. While our Daddy and Papa is no longer with us in body, we find comfort in knowing he is dancing with Jesus and those who went before him, watching over us from his Heavenly home.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Lois Whiddon of Thomasville, GA, and two daughters, Sharon Clemons (Will) of Adel, GA, and Melonie Niehanke (Keith) of Hahira, GA and brother Charlie Whiddon of Ochlocknee, GA. Robert was preceded in death by his father JC Whiddon, mother Margaret Griffen Harrell, sister Lois Dunham, brother Rack Whiddon and his daughter Lisa Whiddon.

Robert was especially proud of his grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He leaves behind Brittney “BB” Allen (Mikey) of Adel, GA; Jason “Cowboy” Whiddon of Thomasville, GA; Brooke “Shorty” Martin of Adel, GA; Morgan “MorganTown” Murphy (Caitlyn) of Hahira, GA; Jessica “Lucy” Dolan (Dustin) of Thomasville, GA; Conor Johnson of Cairo, GA; and Jaylin “Beanie” Johnson of Hahira, GA.

His legacy also lives on through his cherished great-grandchildren: Cameron Whiddon, Malone Allen, Brelan Stokes, Catie Glyn Allen, Talen Murphy, Finley Dolan, Waylon Dolan, Aubrey Carter, Shiloh Murphy, and Rhett Dolan.

A service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Rose City Church of God at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends Monday, April 28, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Allen and Allen Celebration of Life Chapel.
