Services for Robert M. Bobby May, Jr., 80, of Long Beach, California, were held at 10 a.m., July 9, 2008 at Hunter-Perez Mortuary in Long Beach. Interment was in the Riverside National Cemetery. Mr. May passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at his home. Born August 5, 1927, in Miami, Fla., he was the son of the late Robert Murray, Sr. and Elizabeth Marsh May. He married Annette Estelle Barnard in 1948, who survives. He grew up in Thomasville. There he was active in the Boys Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He joined the United States Navy and proudly served tours of duty throughout the world with action in World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. He retired as a Machinist Mate, Third Class in 1970 and made his home with his family in Long Beach. Preferring to remain active, Bobby joined the maintenance department of Long Beach City College. He retired from his second career in 1993. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Long Beach. Other survivors include daughters, Bess Robert Mewes of Henderson, NV, Margaret Dorman of Bellflower, California, Stephanie Opstad of Claremont, California; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild due early October; brother, Joseph Martha May of Thomasville; sisters-in-law, Frances Dunaway and Madge Cain both of Lakeland, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Inc., P.O. Box 1201, Albany, GA, 31702 or to the American Heart Association, c/o Vicki Lutes, P. O.
