Rosemarie Kaufhold

May 1, 1937 — August 24, 2023

Rosemarie Kaufhold (Müller) was born in Stettin in modern day Poland on May 1, 1937 to Carl & Fredericke Müller. She, along with her 4 younger siblings and mother were refugees heading westward during WW2, while her father was held as a prisoner of war for numerous years. The family finally found a foothold in Nord-Rhein-Westfalen and her father also found his way to them at the end of the war.

Rosemarie went on to study accounting and computers, working as a programmer and trainer for one of the leading computer companies of the time, when computers still took up an entire room!

She met the man of her dreams, architect/engineer Karl Heinz Kaufhold, at the 50th wedding anniversary of mutual acquaintances and they were wed several years later, in June of 1973. In March of 1976 they welcomed their daughter Carola Rodina into the world, and a short 5 years later, they decided to embark on a new adventure, emigrating to the United States and making Cocoa Beach, FL their new home in the summer of 1981.

After some beach years, the family moved to Thomasville Ga in 1988 and sadly Karl Heinz passed away a mere three years later, having lost a 7 year on and off again battle with cancer.

Rosemarie, however, kept the candle of their mutual dream fiercely burning, seeing her daughter through high school at Brookwood, college at Auburn and beyond.

Rosemarie downsized back to the beach of Cape Canaveral, FL for some years thereafter to reside in one of the townhomes Karl had built a block from the ocean, and made a final return to Thomasville in 2015.

The last several years were mostly quiet, spent with one old and true friend as well as a few dear new ones. Her daughter, also residing in Thomasville once again, looked in on and after her through these last years.

Rosemarie exhaled what was to be her last breath around 1:40am Thursday, Aug 24th with her daughter by her side. Her passing was peaceful and now she can fly free to reunite with her loved ones that have gone before her.

She is survived by her daughter Carola Rodina Rutkowski (Kaufhold) and three of her four younger siblings and families, Rotraut von Bergner, Uve Müller and Christiane Müller, all residing in their homeland Germany.

There will be a small gathering to share and remember at the courtyard of Adele Creative, downtown Thomasville Thursday, Sept 7 from 4-7pm.
