Graveside services for Roy Clarence Nixon, 81 of Folkston, Ga, will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, January 11, 2013 at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Rev. Lee Waller will officiate. Roy went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 7, 2013. He was born in Thomasville, Georgia on March 28, 1931 to Grover Clarence Nixon and Estelle Courtney Nixon. Roy graduated from FSU and then proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1949-1953. He did a tour of duty in Germany as sergeant of the military police. When he returned home he married the love of his life, Margie Genevieve Furgeson, who went home to be with the Lord in 2003. Roy is survived by one son R. Timothy Nixon, his wife Aung, and one granddaughter, Gena Pot Claire Nixon, all of Chaing Mai, Thailand, and one brother Hank Sheill of Arkansas, and a host of beloved friends and family members all over this country. Roy worked for the U.S. Geological Survey Mapping Dept. as a cartographer. He worked in Saudi Arabia and all over the western U.S. Upon retirement he and Gena settled in Hot Springs, Arkansas to be near family and friends. Later Roy moved back to Thomasville, Ga. and lastly to Folkston, Ga. where he was an active member of the Riverside Chapel Baptist Church, and a men's Bible study class at Hickox Baptist Church. He enjoyed writing the stories and adventures of his life Footsteps in the Dust and working on his family genealogy. During his battle with cancer Roy was encouraged by his family and good Christian friends, as his body grew weaker, his faith grew stronger. He was compelled to tell all who entered his room of a dream he had about the end-of-time. Acts. 2:17-20 ...."and all who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." We salute you, Roy C.
