Graveside services for Ruby Josephine Gibson Bryant, 77 of Thomasville will be held at 2 pm, Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Georgia St. Rev. Steve Brooks will officiate. Mrs. Bryant went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 after her struggle with cancer. She was born January 6, 1941 in Thomasville to Eustace and Alma Jordan Gibson along with 3 brothers, Marvin (deceased) (Janice), Daniel (deceased) (Makiko) and Francis (Bobbie). She was born into and was raised as a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church, which her father helped build. She played piano there and other neighboring churches for 50 years. She taught many Sunday school classes as well as VBS’s. She was valedictorian of the first graduating class of Central High School. She worked as a lab technician at Archbold Hospital under Dr. McCollum. She also worked at the Cairo Hospital for a while. After a short break to start a family, she began working in doctor offices running their labs. She was with Dr. Oscar Mims, Sr., Ernest Wahl, Dr. Matthews, Wagner, Wright, Cheney, Charlie and Vance Watt, Ed Hall, Thomas and then finally retiring with Dr.’s Beverly and Brewer. She married James G. Bryant (deceased) and together had 3 sons, James Gordon Bryant, Jr., Michael E. Bryant and Jonathan G (Michelle) Bryant. She was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandria, Cross (Chelcie) and Shelby, also with many nieces and nephews. Dr. Oscar Mims, Sr has been her faithful and loving fiancé for many years now. She was a volunteer at Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center, was a member of Red Hats and the All Saints Church Book Club. She enjoyed playing bridge with many friends. She loved many trips to beaches and mountains, enjoyed books art and nature. She was blessed in this life with many family members and even more friends in every aspect of her life. She was and will always be loved by the many she touched. Visitation will be held 3-5pm, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home.
