Russell Parsons Chubb passed away at his home in Thomasville, Georgia on August 3rd, 2022. He was born in New York City on June 22, 1939, to Thomas Caldecot Chubb and Edith Onions Chubb. He attended Greenwich Country Day in Greenwich, Connecticut, The Gunnery School in Washington, Connecticut, Boston University, and University of Florida Law School.
After graduation, Russell practiced law in Miami and Palm Beach before moving to Atlanta where he joined First National Bank as a trust officer. In 1976, he and his wife, Lee, moved to Thomasville, Georgia where Russell founded a real estate firm, Chubb Associates. He was active in the real estate business until his retirement in 2015.
Russell was an active business and civic leader in Thomasville. He was a founding member of All Saints Episcopal Church and served as a junior and senior warden. He served on the Board of Trustees for Archbold Hospital from 1979-2004 and served as Chairman of the Board Archbold Medical Center 1985-1987. He was later honored as a Senior Active Trustee. He served on the Brookwood School Board of Directors. He also served on the Commercial Bank Board of Directors and The Tall Timbers Research Station Board of Directors. He was a member of the Rotary Club and served on many committees.
Russell Chubb was a member of The New York Yacht Club, The Beachton Yacht Club, Georgia/Florida Field Trial Club, Live Oak Hounds, The Florida Bar, Georgia Association of Realtors, and many others. He was an avid outdoorsman and conservationist. He had a great love of the sea and sailing. He was known for his kind smile and endearing sense of humor. He was a dedicated family man and mentor to his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and many of their friends. He was affectionately known as “Papa”.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Caldecot Chubb and Edith Onions Chubb, his sister Victoria (Vicky) Chubb Wolsfelt, and brother-in-law, Edward (Eddie) Davis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lee, his children Rebecca Chubb Strickland (Harris) of Thomasville, Georgia, Thomas Caldecot Chubb III (Aimee) of Atlanta, Georgia, Christopher Parsons Chubb (Emily) of Tallahassee, Florida, his sister Rozzie Davis of Thomasville, Georgia and brother in law Gerald Wolsfelt of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.
He is also survived by grandchildren Randell Chastain (Carson), Christopher “Kit” Sanford, Lily Chubb, Catie Chubb, William Chubb, Preston Chubb, Christopher Chubb and Tyler Chubb, Savannah Strahan, Harrison Strickland (Sarah), Lewis Strickland(Corrine), Byron Strickland.
And fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was loved and cared for by Phyllis Thomas and a team of health care professionals, Celeste, Clarice, Tonya, Billie Jo, Modie, and Mattie.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Episcopal Church at four o’clock Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to All Saints Church, Archbold Foundation, Tall Timbers, or Brookwood School.
