Ruth Barwick Fisher

A memorial service for Ruth Barwick Fisher, 98, will be 3:00 pm, Friday, October 19 2007, in the chapel of Southern Pines Community. Mrs. Fisher died peacefully on October 13, 2007 at her home at Southern Pines where she resided for the past nine years. Mrs. Fisher was a native of Sandersville, GA, the daughter of the late Courtland Horatio Barwick and Florence Estelle Wright Barwick. She was a member of Arsenal Hill Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C. After graduation from high school and secretarial college, Mrs. Fisher moved to Columbia, SC. She began what was to be a 40-year career with the Federal Land Bank of Columbia, SC, retiring in February of 1974. On December 24, 1939, she married George Walter Fisher. Mr. and Mrs. Fisher resided in Columbia and shared 59 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1998. Mrs. Fisher was also preceded in death by sisters Stella Barwick Nichols and Lucille Barwick Mercer, and a brother, Courtland H. Barwick. ?Aunt Ruth? is survived by nieces and nephews Lynn Rone Deas of Thomasville, GA; Marilyn Jack Knight of Helotes, TX; Jimmy Lou Mercer of Wetumpka, AL; Jane Mike Granish of Atlanta, GA; Mike Joyce Barwick of Dacula, GA; Debi Mally Jones of Norcross, GA; Barbara Jack Beckman of Chickamauga, GA; Ward Regina Fisher of Andalusia, AL; Don Elsie Garrett of Daytona Beach, FL; Alma Maynard LaMar of Charleston, SC, Jerry Fisher of Columbia, SC, and a host of great-nieces and nephews and their families. Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 17, 2007, in Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia, S.C. with the Rev. Seth Yi officiating.
