Sally Frances Strickland Jones

Sally Frances Strickland Jones, 77, passed away peacefully at her home at 2303 Gatlin Creek Road in Thomasville on Friday, March 4, 2005. Mrs. Jones was born January 15, 1928, the daughter of Ervin Elijah and Aquilla Touchton Strickland of Moultrie, Ga. She was married to Thomas Sidney Jones of Moultrie in 1946. Her greatest joy in life was her family and she delighted in every aspect of family life. She also served as Secretary/Treasurer of Jones Tractor Company, the family?s business, from 1971 until 1998.

Throughout her life, she was known for her elegance, sense of style, keen wit and sweet spirit. Mrs. Jones grew up in Funston, Georgia. She graduated from Moultrie High School in 1944 and from Norman Junior College in 1946. That year, she was named Miss Norman Junior College.
Shortly after her graduation and Tom?s return from service in World War II, they were married in Funston, Georgia. Their delight in and love for each other was evident throughout 59 years of marriage.

Mrs. Jones lived in Moultrie, Georgia prior to and in the first years of her marriage. From 1949 until 1977, the Joneses lived in the Hamilton community of Colquitt County, Georgia, where they raised a family of five. In 1977, they moved to Thomasville, Georgia where they had founded their business in 1971.

A dedicated Christian, Mrs. Jones was actively involved in church activities. She served as Sunday school teacher, pianist, director of Vacation Bible School, and many other roles in the churches they attended?Funston Baptist Church, Rose Hill Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Thomasville. Most recently, she was a member of the Amanda Hicks? Sunday School class at First Baptist.

Survivors include her husband Thomas S. Jones; sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Rita Jones of Cairo, Lije and Tracey of Conyers, Kim and Angela of Thomasville, and Earl and Jackie of Tallahassee and daughter and son-in-law Marta and Jerry Turner of Thomasville; grandchildren Betty Jones Johnson, Didi Jones Pratz, Sally Jones McGregor, Lane Jones, Hannah Jones Turner, Clayton Jones, Wesley Jones, Jason Jones, Melissa Jones West, Thomas Jones, and Stephen Jones; great grandchildren Avery Jones, Coleman Jones, Kaylea Turner, Cason Turner, and Jeremy Pratz.

Also surviving are sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Joy and Ed Cone; Barbara and Lynn Jones; Christine Strickland; Ernest Hobbs; Carl Striplin; and Charles Coffee as well as several dozen nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters Olive DeMott, Ruby Demott, Ruth Strickland, Lottie Mobley, Josie Monroe, Grace Smith, and Kizzie Jones; and brothers Eston Strickland, Tharpe Strickland, Harry Strickland, Leon Strickland, Earl Strickland, Coy Strickland, and Freddie Strickland.

The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, March 6 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Jones home at 2303 Gatlin Creek Road or from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Allen and Allen Funeral Home at 110 West Hansell Street.

A service honoring the life of beloved wife, mother, and friend Frances Strickland Jones will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 7 at First Baptist Church of Thomasville. Graveside services will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville.
