Graveside services for Samuel Summerfield Drake, Jr., 59 of Tallahassee will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 20, 2013 in the Chapel of Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner will officiate. Mr. Drake passed away July 12 in Tallahassee. Born September 30, 1953 in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Samuel Summerfield Drake and Doris Jordan Drake. Sam was a graduate of Thomasville High School where he excelled in a number of sports including basketball and track where he became proficient in throwing the discus. He was also the manager of the football team for a number of years. He had a passion for duck & dove hunting as well as fresh water and coastal fishing. Sam had a love for music and he and several friends decided to learn the necessary skills to create their own band which they called "Summerfield". He worked at several jobs during his high school years and became employed by a well-known home builder in Thomasville whom he worked with for several years and he became confident enough to acquire a contractors license of his own. After several years of working for himself building and remodeling homes he chose to pursue a career in music and entertainment where he created a successful business and installed sound systems and electronic games in several locations in Tallahassee. One of his most treasured accomplishments in this field was the creation and management of an electronic dart board league inclusive of teams and tournaments. He was blessed with a passion for learning and an extraordinary memory which served him well in his pursuits to use and share his knowledge to the benefit of others. Sam was a Christian and immersed himself in the study of the Bible and his knowledge and passion for his beliefs were well respected. Sam joins a multitude of friends and family who left before him and leaves behind a multitude of both to follow. The world will be a little less informed with his passing. He is survived by a circle of beloved friends who he considered family. Other survivors include his sister, Sally Drake Qualheim of Thomasville; nephews and nieces, Robert Everett Qualheim, Jr., Kathryn Elizabeth Qualheim, Christopher Jordon Qualheim, Evan Anderson Qualheim. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Library, C/O Thomas County Public Library System, 201 N.
