"Jesus welcomed her home. What a well-lived life."

"The sweetest soul who got to love on so many."

"Such a life, well lived and deeply loved."

"She never wanted to miss the fun and loved her family so well."

"She was everyone's grandma, and we loved her."

These are just a few of the hundreds of messages that have poured in as family and friends remember our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Sara Grace Walker Homesley, known to nearly everyone simply as Ma, passed peacefully in her sleep on June 29, 2026, surrounded by family.

Ma was born on October 11, 1927, in Oxford, Alabama, one of seven children. She is survived by one sister, Ethel Davis. She married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Horace Edward Homesley, Jr., who preceded her in death after 52 years of shared adventures and unwavering devotion.

She is survived by her five children: Angela Matthews, Dennis Homesley (Redonda), Michael Homesley, Timothy Homesley, and Katrina Harrell (Mike); 14 of her 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Ma was blessed to meet her precious great-great granddaughter for the very first time just three days before the Lord called her Home.

If there was laughter to share, a celebration to attend, or family to gather, Ma was already on her way. Long before anyone coined the phrase FOMO, she was living as though every moment spent with those she loved was a gift not to be missed. She was the life of every party, but more importantly, she was the heart of her family.

Ma loved extravagantly, encouraged generously, and welcomed everyone with a warm smile that made them feel seen and valued. Her laughter was contagious, and no one laughed harder than she did at herself, especially during family game nights. She brought joy wherever she went, brightening every room with her presence.

Above all, Ma's life reflected her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. She quietly and faithfully allowed His light to shine through her acts of kindness and love. She leaves behind a legacy not measured in possessions, but in faith, family, and the countless lives she touched.

Ma's story began with a memorable twist. At birth, her parents named her Mary after a favorite aunt. They later discovered the aunt's actual name was Sara and changed their daughter's name to match. Even as a child, life seemed determined to give her stories worth telling. She once accidentally cut off the tip of her finger while playing with the family well pump. As a young newlywed, she won a brand-new car, sold it, and used the money to purchase the couple's very first home.

Horace's career carried their family across the United States and even overseas, including several memorable years in Japan during the 1950s. No matter where life took her, Sara made every place feel like home. She loved books and expressed her creativity through sewing. Over the years she made countless outfits for her sisters, daughters, and granddaughters, each stitch another expression of her care for those she loved.

Even into her nineties, Ma amazed everyone she met with her youthful spirit, timeless elegance, and endless energy. She never slowed down if there was family to visit, a beach to enjoy, or a trip to take. Her response to any invitation was, "When do we leave?" While the beach always held a special place in her heart, her favorite destination was wherever her family happened to be. Being together was what mattered most.

Though our hearts ache because we can no longer hug her, hear her laughter, or see her smile, we rejoice knowing she has been welcomed into the presence of her Savior. We picture her running into the arms of Jesus on legs made new, completely healed and forever whole.

A visitation honoring Ma will be held at Celebration Church, 5413 Hwy 319S, Thomasville, GA, on Sunday, July 5, beginning at 1pm with a Memorial Service at the church to directly follow Visitation. All present are invited to join the family afterward in a procession to Laurel Hill Cemetery.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7.

Well done, good and faithful servant. Your race is finished, your faith has become sight, and your love will continue to echo through generations.
