Graveside services for Sara Julia C. Johnson, 92, of Metcalfe, are at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Neely will officiate. Mrs. Johnson died Dec. 5 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman, after a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 7, 1916, in Thomas County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Minnie Lee Hancock Chastain. On Dec. 11, 1937, in Thomas County, she married Grover C. Johnson, Jr., who preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1991. She was a retired nurse's attendant from Southwestern State Hospital and was a member of Metcalfe United Methodist Church. Survivors include children, Rebecca Rouse, Donald C. Johnson, Thomas B. Johnson and wife, Oveida all of Metcalfe and Jimmy Welch of Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Johnson; sister, Thelma Taylor; brother, Homer Chastain.
