A memorial service for Marie Bowen will be held on Sunday at 1:00 pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Sara Marie Miller Bowen, born May 30, 1919, passed away unexpectedly September 27, 2012 at her residence. She was born to Branson and Blanche McCullough Miller, in Columbus, Mississippi and spent her formative years in Birmingham, Alabama. She married Neil Bowen in 1944 and spent many years in Macon, Georgia as a mother, housewife, administrative assistant and library aide. When husband Neil retired, they moved to Lake Logan-Martin near Pell City, Alabama. Following her beloved husband's death in 1986, she subsequently moved to Thomasville to be near family. She made Thomasville her home for 24 years.
She was much loved for her quick wit, warm smile and her love of games. Marie was a devoted volunteer with the Archbold Hospital Auxiliary for many years. She made many new friends here and maintained many close relationships in her previous residences.
Most recently she was a parishioner of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her sons, Marcus Rosanne of Atlanta; Larry Lucy Thomasville; and her daughter, Janis Asbell George, Franklin, Tennessee. Grandchildren, Patrick Bowen and Christina Bowen McCormack Scott, Atlanta; Tori Asbell Johnson Scott, Namibia; Whitney Asbell Bumpus Justin, Nashville, Tennesse; Neil Bowen, Tacoma, Washington. Great grandchildren, Mary Kent Bowen; Bo and Cole McCormack; Robert Scott and Isabella Johnson; Haley Bumpus.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Saturday lunch program which was Marie's chosen ministry.
