Graveside services for Sarah Ellen Thompson Beaty, 87, of Barwick will be held 10:00 am, Thursday, June 21 at Rosewood Cemetery in Barwick. Rev. Elbert Channell will officiate. Mrs. Beaty passed away June 18, 2012 at her residence. Born November 17, 1924 in Avon Park, Fl, she was the daughter of the late George & Fannie McCullough Thompson. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Sarah Rosmond Davenport McCullough, who was the great granddaughter of Isaiah Davenport AKA Davenport House in Savannah. She graduated from Orlando High School in 1943. In 1944 she joined the Navy, serving until 1946. She was stationed in Washington D.C. After leaving the Navy she went to cosmetology school in Florida. After graduating she worked in salons in Lake Wales, Orlando, Sarasota and Winter Haven. In 1953 she went to New York to work at Deleo's on Madison Ave, but decided New York winters were not for this "Florida girl" and returned to Winter Haven where in 1956 she met Bernard E. Beaty. They were married September 21, 1957 and were married for 47 years until his death in May of 2004. They had one daughter together, Debbie Beaty of Barwick. Other survivors include step-daughter, Paula Stephens and step-grandson Chris Stephens of Savannah; brothers, Alex Thompson and wife Elizabeth of Casselberry, Fl., Jack Thompson of Winter Haven, Fl; family friend of over 45 yrs, Denise Kochicas and family of Winter Haven Fl; brother-in-law, Robert Green of Barwick; very special nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews that have been so helpful & caring during her illness. Also many kind and caring neighbors & friends in Barwick. She is preceded in death by her brother & sister-in-law, Rodrick & Jackie Thompson; sisters, Georgia Clyde Brown and husband James, Madaline Austin and husband Albert; sister, Shirley Thompson; mother & father-in-law, Garnie & Bessie Beaty, brother-in-law Virgil Beaty and wife Lucy; brothers, W.J. Beaty, Tom Beaty, Boles Beaty and wife Bernice; sisters-in-law, Betty Green, Louise Cumbest and husband Ellis, Jo Hargrove and husband Truman; nephew, Virgil G. Beaty, Jr and niece Lynette Wood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rosewood Cemetery, P.O. Box 91, Barwick, Ga 31720 or charity of your choice. The family will receive friends 5-7 pm, Wednesday at the funeral home.
