Services for Sarah Martin Highsmith Massey, 77, of Thomasville are at 2 p.m., Monday, December 31, 2007 at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Dan Spencer and Rev. Dr. Milton C. Gardner will officiate and interment is in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Massey passed away Dec. 29 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 7, 1930, in Madison, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Annie Mae Lewis Martin both of Barwick. She was the youngest of six children. She grew up and went to school in Pavo and finished high school in Barwick in 1947. One month later she married R. M. Buddy Highsmith. They were married for almost 50 years and had four children, until he preceded her in death in 1996. In 2003 she married Elvin Massey, who survives. She was a member of First Baptist Church for almost 35 years and was active as a Sunday school teacher and nursery keeper. She was a member of the Sunshine Bible class and the Young at Heart senior adult group. She was a strong Christian, wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, homemaker and a marvelous loving wife. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Rhonda Highsmith of Gray, Garry and Sandra Highsmith and granddogs, D. J., Sissy and Greer of Boston and David and Wanda Highsmith of Boston; grandchildren, Lori Kary, Kelly Haag, Martin Highsmith, Missy King and Kristina Larramore; six great-grandchildren; nephew, Russell Goodpasture of Boston; several other nieces and nephews; and dearest friend, Judy Arline. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Maddox; and granddaughter, April Highsmith. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Evergreen Baptist Church, P.O. Box 57, Boston, Ga. 31626.
