Sharon Elaine Smith

Services for Sharon Elaine Harrison Smith, 75, will be held Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 2 PM at First Newark Baptist Church with brother Steve Brooks officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Gary Smith, Doug Smith, Parker Owens, Noah Owens, Harrison Owens, and Dan Badger. Sharon Smith was born October 24, 1947, to the late Ruby Evans and Grover Cleveland Harrison in Tampa, Florida. In 1965 she graduated from Hillsborough High School and married the love of her life, Gary Smith, in Tampa, Florida. She retired after 20 years with WinnDixie, then went on to work at Thomas County Federal for several years before final retirement. Mrs. Smith was most passionate about her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and led by that example in her life. She ministered to those all around her, whether it be friends or family members, by extending compassion, kindness, and unending support. She never met a stranger and was always the first person to greet a new face in the room. Mrs. Smith was overjoyed with the love she had for her family. She was the mother to two, grandmother to seven, and great-grandmother to six not including the three to arrive the next year. She never missed the opportunity to tell others how proud she was of them or show off a picture or two. She displayed constant support to her family by attending all sporting events, phone calls to remind them how much she loved them and covering them daily with prayer. In her spare time, Mrs. Smith enjoyed sewing and quilting, a skill she learned from her late mother Mrs. Ruby Harrison. Some of her most prideful sewing projects included making her children's clothes, jelly roll bags, multiple quilts, and blankets for her great-grandchildren. She was a dedicated member of the Cotton Pickin' Quilters quilting group. Mrs. Smith also loved camping. She and her husband, Mr. Gary, traveled across multiple states with their camper and their two dogs, Peanut and Shooter. Mrs. Smith is survived by her spouse of 57 years, Gary Smith; children Jason Smith (Kelly) of Jefferson, Ga., and Janiece Owens (Greg) of Thomasville, Ga; grandchildren Gary Smith (Taylor), Allyson Dodson (Eric), Katie Badger (Dan), Parker Owens (Caroline), Doug Smith (Morgan), Noah Owens, and Harrison Owens; great-grandchildren Nolan Smith, Maisyn Claire Badger, McKinley Owens, Kollins Dodson, Owen Badger, Knox Smith, and three more expected in 2023; sisters Glenda Womble (Steve) of Lutz, Fl., Sarah Birch (John) of Alabama, and Faye Turke (Tom) of Tampa Fl; as well as numerous other members of the extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents Leslie and Jewel Evans, and Mancil and Cressie Harrison. Visitation will be from 4-6pm on Saturday at Allen & Alen Celebration of Life Chapel.
