Thomasville, GA - Sheila Ann Gibson, born on September 12, 1934, in Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, in Thomasville, Georgia, at the age of 91. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Sheila’s life was a testament to love, family, and friendship. 

As an only child, Sheila cherished the bonds she created throughout her life, nurturing a large and loving family that includes her son Richard Lawrence Hollingsworth (Alicia) of Spring, Texas; her daughter Terri McCord (Millard) of Havana, Florida; her son Kevin Hollingsworth (UnHui) of Williamsburg, Virginia; and her daughter Tammy Gibson of Monroe, Georgia. Sheila's legacy also lives on through her 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life.

For many years, Sheila worked diligently as a bookkeeper in the manufacturing sector, with the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company. She embraced life in meaningful ways, filling her days with the love of reading and indulging in outings for pedicures. Sheila found herself deeply connected to her community at The Residence at Oak Grove, where she participated actively in Bible study and church groups and thrilling bingo games, which she often won. Her friendships there provided her with immense joy and comfort, resonating with her family and enriching their lives as well. 

Fond memories of Sheila will also include her delightful trips to Panama City Beach, where she relished the sun and surf, and her deep affection for chocolate-covered cherries, a favorite treat she often shared with grandchildren. She was known for her meticulous nature, her warmth, and her fiercely generous spirit. 

Sheila is preceded in death by her beloved husband Philip Gibson, her parents, her daughter, Debi Cody and son, Mark Hollingsworth. A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held on Saturday, August 15th, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Allen & Allen Funeral Home Celebration of Life Chapel. Her family invites friends and loved ones to gather in remembrance of the beauty she brought into their lives.

Donations may be made in her honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
