Services for Sherman Benjamin Hall, 90, of Pavo, are Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00AM at Salem Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmy Voyles, the Rev. Wayne Goff and Jimmy Clanton will officiate and interment will be at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Hall died Friday, March 24, 2017 at Legacy Village at Park Regency in Moultrie, GA. Born February 6, 1927 in Lowndes County, Ga he was the son of the late Rena Lavirl Zipperer Hall and James Everett “Red” Hall. When he was seven weeks old, his family moved to Indiana and returned to Lowndes County where he grew up in Lake Park and the Clyattville area. He graduated from Lake Park High School in 1943 and attended ABAC before serving in the United States Navy at a training center in Maryland. He attended the University of Georgia for a short time, and then returned to Indiana to attend Ball State Teachers College in 1951 where he earned a teaching degree, and majored in health and physical education. After returning to Georgia he coached basketball in Lee County and then coached basketball and track in Thomas County at Boston High School in 1954 and at Central High School. In 1981 he retired from Thomas County Schools where he was the vocational supervisor. During his 38 years in education he continued to farm and established H & H Printing and Publishing Company in Pavo in 1982. He was called into the ministry at age 65 and pastored Evergreen Baptist Church in Brooks County for 18 years. After retirement he was active at Salem Baptist Church where he served as associate pastor and served in various leadership capacities. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Madelyn Thigpen Hall, son, Sherman Benjamin Hall, Jr and wife Teresa of Pavo, two grandsons, Sherman Benjamin Hall, III and wife Amy Burch Hall of Valdosta and Bradley Kyle Hall of Claxton, Ga and a great grandson, Greyson Burch Hall, brother and sister-in-law, Verlon Lowell and Judy Hall of Lake City, FL, sisters, Margery Stephens and Wonda Arnold both of Valdosta and sister-in-law, Carolyn Hall of Valdosta, Ga. He was preceded in death by brother, James Ludy Hall, sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn Hall Hartman and Major Eugene Hartman and brothers-in-law, Elwood Stephens and Charles Arnold. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Colquitt Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 3548, Moultrie, GA 31776 or Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00AM on Monday at the church.
