Shirley Virginia Umphries

Graveside service for Shirley Virginia Umphries will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Shirley Umphries, age 86, passed away in the loving arms of her Savior on August 8, 2023. She was born in Moultrie on July 8, 1937, to the late William and Beady Brady Reynolds. She was an inspector for the Department of Agriculture where she retired after 35+ years. Mama was strong willed and stubborn at times but she had an enormous heart and sense of humor. She was generous, loyal, and brave. She loved and protected her kids and grandkids. Mama will be remembered for her big heart that she shared with her family and friends. If you knew her you knew this. Survivors include her daughters Terri White of Thomasville; Vicki DeSantis of Thomasville; grandchildren Nick Cashwell (Jessica), and Adam Bengston (Julie); great-grandchildren Hayden Miller, Camden Miller, Parker Bengston, Harper Bengston, Ty Cashwell, and Thomas Cashwell; sisters Carolyn McConnell of Tampa, and Marlyn Price of Cairo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ray Vaughn Umphries, brothers Leland Reynolds, Wyman Reynolds, Raymond Reynolds, and Devon Reynolds; sisters Vivian Mills, Hazel Pike, Bobbie Jean Jordan; granddaughter Kristie Miller and great-grandchild Gavin Miller, Christian Miller and Ragan Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriner’s Hospital. Mama you will be greatly missed and loved dearly forever. Family will greet friends from 9:30-10 AM prior to the service at the cemetery.
