Sonny Thompson, 80, peacefully passed away on March 2, 2024, at his residence in Thomasville, GA. Ralph "Sonny" Alton Thompson was born February 15, 1944, to the late Sadie and James Alton Thompson.
Sonny was a warehouse foreman at Colonial and WJ Powell Companies, and later served as the director of maintenance at Southern Pines Retirement Community. A proud graduate of Thomasville High School, class of 1962, he remained actively involved in his community and faith, being a member of Dawson Street Baptist Church.
Sonny's passions for family, football, and fishing were evident to all who knew him. He cherished his wife Carolyn, his children Dana Faith Mickley of Altus, OK, James A. Thompson (Jamie) of Thomasville, and Jason (JT) A. Thompson of Pelham, as well as his grandchildren Lillian and Andrew Mickley, Carson Thompson, and Hudson, Lucy, Adalynn, and Lottie Thompson. Sonny was preceded in death by his brothers Ray Thompson and Dickie Thompson and is survived by his sisters Jane Brady of Ochlocknee and Patricia Dennis of Summerfield, FL.
Funeral services for Sonny will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Dawson Street Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Jason Thompson and Reverend Lee Waller. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. He will be buried at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Thompson, William (BJ) Mickley, Chuck Cowman, Andrew Mickley, Hudson Thompson, and Jack Sangster with Billy Ross and his Sunday School class serving as honorary pallbearers. His family would also express overwhelming gratitude to Dovie Ross for her love and unboundless care of Sonny and the entire family.
