Stanley "Stan" Lamar Davis

Memorial service for Stanley 'Stan" Lamar Davis, 56, of Thomasville will be 11:00 am, Monday, April 4, 2011 at First Baptist Church Chapel, where he was a member. Rev. Dr. Milton Gardner will officiate. Stan passed away March 30, 2011 after a short illness of esophageal cancer. Born June 8, 1954 in Albany, he was the son of the late Lamar Davis and Lynette Culpepper Davis Crawford of Thomasville and Tallahassee. Stan moved to Thomasville with his family when he was in elementary school and graduated from Thomasville High School with the class of 1972. Stan became a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville at an early age and grew up in that church. He graduated from Valdosta State in 1976 and later received another degree in Industrial Management from Auburn University. Stan worked and lived in Sarasota Fl., Albany and settled in the Atlanta area. After many years working with the Federal Government he took early retirement from the IRS. He was a runner, participated in many marathons in Atlanta, ran the New York Marathon three consecutive years and was very active working as a volunteer for the Atlanta Olympics. Stan loved South Georgia, Lake Lanier and any study of the Universe. He was a loving son, brother and friend and will truly be missed by all. Stan knew of his impending death and left this earth knowing God through Jesus Christ and as he quoted, "I will just be in another dimension". Other survivors include sister, Fran Davis Cobb and husband Richard of Orange Beach, Ala; brothers, Sid Davis of Atlanta and Charles Davis and his wife Kay Davis of Coolidge; nephews, Jaan Childs of Beverly Hills, Ca and Maury Cobb of Birmingham, Ala. The family will receive friends 4-6 pm, Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Friends and family can sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com
