Funeral services for Sue Carol Potts, 72, of Cairo are at 2 pm, Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Eastside Baptist Church of Thomasville. Rev. Tim Robson and Mike Hanscom will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Miss Potts died on November 29, 2011 in Thomasville. Born January 2, 1939 in Mitchell County Ga, she was the daughter of the late Frank Tucker and Elizabeth Page Potts. Miss Potts was the tenth child of 13 children. She was a share cropper's child and worked in the fields gathering tobacco and picking cotton. She was a 1958 graduate of Mitchell County High School and attended Georgia Southwestern Technical School in Americus, Georgia. She retired from the City of Thomasville Water and Light Department after working there for 25 years. Sue was a hard worker and believed if you wanted something bad enough you would work hard to get it. She was a sharing, caring person and even though she never birthed a child there were many she mothered. Sue provided a home for her parents, sister and brother until she became disabled with Arthritis and at that time she moved to live with her sister Janice and her husband Eddie. Sue loved her family and her church family, was a faithful member of East Side Baptist Church since moving to Thomasville in 1958. Miss Potts loved the Lord and always shows people her love for her Lord and Savior by her giving heart. Sue was a diehard Braves fan and has met several players in the past, loved the Georgia Bulldogs, fishing and spending time with her family in the mountains. She has fought a good fight and now has won. She is survived by her brother and sister in law, Earl and Sherrill Potts of Albany, Georgia, Thad and Liz Potts of Eastman, Georgia; sisters Madeline Eaton of Thomasville, Frances Hatcher of Camilla, Georgia; sister and brother in law Juanita and Steve Sculley of Lizella, Georgia and Janice and Eddie Smith of Cairo, and also many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her brothers Oliver, Bobby, B.L. and James; sisters Tennyson Jones Bishop, Christine Newton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Help Ministries, 113 Deacon Lane, Pinnacle, NC 27043. The family would like to thank the staff of Archbold Hospital and Golden Living Center for their care. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm, Wednesday at the funeral home.
