Sue Vinson Garfield, 83, of Thomasville, Georgia, passed away, April 25th, 2024 at Archbold Medical Center. She was born in Thomas County, GA, June 18th, 1940 to Ellis Eugene Vinson & Deoris Elizabeth Benton. Sue graduated from Ochlocknee High School in 1958, and subsequently graduated from Birdwood College (now Thomas University) with honors. She was a resident of Clearwater, Fl for 17 years before moving back to Georgia. Sue loved working alongside her husband Lewis in maintaining their home “Shiloh” in Ochlocknee. She was a faithful Christian. Starting in 1997, Sue began volunteering with Archbold Hospital’s Auxiliary amassing over 5700 hours and served as President. She partnered with her husband Lewis Garfield, and through their “Changing Lives Ministry” counseled countless individuals within the community including prison ministry. Sue supported the mission of Halcyon Home for battered women. For years she and Lewis strolled the streets and sang at Victorian Christmas in Thomasville. Sue and Lewis were active parishioners of Grace Pointe Church of Thomasville, GA, where together they helped to create Glad Tidings Academy to serve the children.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents Ellis & Deoris Vinson, beloved husbands Robert Wendell Banks and Lewis A. Garfield. She is survived by three sisters Clarice Weaver of Virginia, Judy Carter of Ochlocknee, and Wanna Singletary of Demorest; daughter Kimberly B Pollard of Locust Grove, son Robert Shannon Banks of Quitman, stepson Danny Garfield; grandsons Jordan Pollard and Joshua Pollard of Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 3rd at Grace Pointe Church of Thomasville, GA.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the seventh floor nursing staff at Archbold and Archbold Hospice staff, especially Whitney and Beverley.
