Services for Susan Stanaland Brooks, of Thomasville, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, at Providence Church, Widow White Rd., Meigs, GA. Reverend James Cain will officiate along with Bobby Stanaland and Rob Groover. Pallbearers are Rob Groover, Jonathan Groover, Michael Johnson, John Gillespie, Steve Cain and Taylor Howell. Honorary Pallbearers Trey Stanaland and Rylan Groover. Mrs. Brooks passed away November 26, 2013 in the comfort of her home. She was born February 5, 1932 in Meigs, GA. She was the daughter of the late Hoke Stanaland and Lila Golden Stanaland. She graduated from Meigs High School in 1950. From there, she attended Archbold's school for nursing assistants. After completing the program, she went on to work at Vereen Memorial Hospital in Moultrie, GA. Susan was a woman of many trades. During her lifetime, she also worked as a florist, seamstress and private caregiver. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden, almost as much as she enjoyed fishing and spending time with her dog, Sassy but, in her own words, "My children and grandchildren are my life's greatest accomplishment." She is survived by her children, James A. Codino of Newington, CT; Samuel D. Johnson of Houston, TX; Christopher E. Johnson and wife Tonya of Merkel, TX; and Tracey B. Groover and husband Rob of Thomasville. Grandchildren are Michael Johnson, Savannah J. Wilcox, Maria Johnson, Dustin Johnson, Jonathan Groover, David Groover, and Beth Ann Groover; Great grandchildren Hope, Christopher, and Taylor Johnson, Cloe Johnson, and Rylan Groover.She were preceded in death by her brothers Horace and Sam Stanaland and sister Nezzie Tucker. Also her late husband's Frank Brooks of Pelham, Joe Codino of Newington, CT and Curtis Johnson of Pelham, GA.
