Born April 27, 1954, in Thomsville, Ga, to Jeanette and Wheeler Dunlap, Jr., he graduated from Thomasville High School in 1972. Two years later he moved to Alaska to work on the Alaskan pipeline and fell in love with the winderness and has lived there ever since. Terry loved life and the great outdoors with a passion and was a wonderfully funny, genuine person. Shortly after moving to Juneau he began his career in cable television, starting as a lineman and working up to the Southeastern District Manager. His career with CGI ended after 27 years. He then became employed by the Alaska Department of Transportation.
Music was his passion. He was a talented and soulful drummer, which had been his love since early childhood. "Automatic Daddy" was one of many local Juneau bands he founded and played with in his lifetime. His sense of humor and contagious attitude were trademarks, always recognizable on one's first encounter with him.
He is survived by his wife, Lea Ike, and son, David Mitchell Dunlap both of Juneau; mother Jeanette Dunlap of Thomasville; brother John Randall Dunlap and his wife, Mary Helen of West Chester, Ohip; their children Rudy, and wife Danielle of Athens, Ga; Emily of Athens,; Joshua and Rachel of West Chester, Ohio; and stepson, Charles Perrault of Vista, Calif; aunts, Annie Lane of Clearwater, Fla and Teru Dunlap of Thomasville; great-aunt, Ruby Weeks of Ochlocknee and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Wheeler Dunlap, Jr. His special friends in Alaska included Jerry Power, Curt Summers and Sam Rabung.
