Terry Eugene Gilligan, loving husband, father, Grampy, brother, and friend, of Thomasville GA, passed away on Monday, May 25, at the age of 70 years. He was completely surrounded and lifted up by his family, whom he loved more than anything else in this world. If you knew Terry, then you already know he did things his own way. He wasn't one for being told how something ought to be done. He lived life according to his own rules. Most of us never had to wonder what he was thinking. He shared his thoughts and opinions freely and passionately. Terry had a keen sense of humor, and you could always expect some good-humored jibes.
Terry was predeceased by his father Robert Gilligan of Warren, Ohio; and his mother Joan Burdorf of Leesburg FL. Terry leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Lisa Curry Gilligan; beautiful daughter Jessica Gilligan Wylie and son-in-law Reid; handsome twin sons, Adam Gilligan and Brian Gilligan; 5 beautiful granddaughters Hattie Wylie, Alice Wylie, Natalyn Wylie, Willa Gilligan, and Thea Gilligan, and grandsons Nolan Gilligan and Chapman Gilligan. These grandchildren who, if they inherited even a fraction of his spirit, are going to be a handful in the very best way. Terry is also survived by his faithful brother Rev. Tim Gilligan, Sr. and wife, Alicia; and devoted sister Cindy Gilligan Hanks and husband Greg; and his brother Rev. Chad Gilligan and wife Rhonda. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law.
As an avid outdoorsman, Terry spent most of his life close to the land working as a dog trainer, forester, and plantation manager. He loved nature and always saw God's designs everywhere he looked. Terry loved his trusted companion, Rufus, and the Atlanta Braves.
Terry was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, gifted Bible teacher, youth leader, and volunteer. He also served faithfully at the Thomasville Street Feed, mentoring and befriending many of the unhoused. For Terry, his faith was expressed by sharing his life with those around him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 210 N. Broad Street, Thomasville, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Thomas County Cares, 518 East Clay Street, Thomasville, GA.
