Services for Thomas Edward Tommy McLendon will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Mitch and the Rev. Harold Pullen will officiate and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Tommy passed away Sunday morning September 5th after a lengthy illness. He was born February 5, 1927 in Dawson, Georgia to Addis Benard McLendon and Eddie Williams McLendon who preceded him in death. Tommy served in the US Navy from 1944-1947. He served in Okinawa and aboard the USS Shangri La. He was in the first atomic bomb test at sea known as Operations Crossroads. He retired as Highway Foreman II with the Department of Transportation after 29 years of service. On November 20, 1946 he married Doris Bruner McLendon who survives. He is also survived by a son Thomas David Mary-Ann McLendon, daughter Ann Gary Dollar and Jane Dollar. His grandchildren included Michelle Tim Connell, Chris McLendon, Blake Kate McLendon, Kelly McLendon and Robby Dollar. Two great-grandchildren Aerial Connell and Harper McLendon along with a sister-in-law Dianne Clements and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Billy and Jack McLendon, a son Michael Edward Mickey McLendon and sister-in-law Bettina Bruner Hancock. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, GA 31799. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9PM on Tuesday.
