Thomas Sidney Jones, Jr., 72, passed away at his home at 1127 Bold Springs Road in Cairo, Georgia on Friday, November 22, 2019. Mr. Jones was born on May 26, 1947, the son of Thomas Sidney Jones and Frances Strickland Jones of Colquitt County, Georgia. He married Rita Nanette Miller of Thomasville on September 19, 1970. Throughout his life, Mr. Jones was known for his love of his family and friends, his faith in God and his involvement in community activities.

Tom grew up in Colquitt County and graduated with honors from Moultrie High School in 1965. After attending Georgia Tech, he worked in the Atlanta area before moving to Thomas County to join his father’s farm equipment business in 1971. Tom worked with his father and two of his brothers at Jones Tractor Company until his retirement in 2005. He also was actively involved in the Southern Equipment Dealers Association, serving on the board and in various leadership roles as well as President in 2001. Aside from his work, Tom was very involved in community activities including academic and athletic booster clubs and following his retirement, Golden K Kiwanis Club.

In the first years of their marriage, Tom and his wife Rita lived in Ochlocknee and Thomasville, where they raised their three daughters. In 2004, they built the house on Bold Springs Road in Cairo, Ga. Tom was deeply devoted to his wife of 49 years, as she is to him.

Survivors include his wife Rita Jones, daughters Betty Jones of Thomasville, Ga. and Sally Jones of Cairo, Ga., daughter and son-in-law Didi and Jon Pratz of Woodstock, Ga., grandchildren Jayme Pratz-Mayfield, Jeremy Pratz, Megan Pratz, Madelyn McGregor, Elizabeth McGregor, and great-grandchildren Ford Mayfield and Clarke Mayfield.

Also surviving are his brothers and sisters-in-law Lije and Tracey Jones of Shady Dale, Ga., Kim and Angela Jones of Monticello, Fla., Earl and Jackie Jones of Tallahassee, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law Marta and Jerry Turner of Thomasville, Ga. as well as many nieces and nephews.

A service honoring Mr. Jones’ life will be held Sunday November 24, 2019 at 1pm at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Oklahoma Street in Thomasville.
