Timothy Clyde York, 65, of Fayetteville, GA, passed away suddenly on February 3, 2024 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Timothy was born on September 23, 1958, in Thomasville, GA to Clyde York and Nelda Kmitta (nee Carithers). Tim grew up in South Georgia where he lived for much of his life. He spent his youth doing farm work with his father before joining the U.S. Army at age 17, where he served for 6 years as a tank crewman. After he was Honorably discharged from the Army, he entered law enforcement, serving as a police officer in Ochlocknee, GA, a sheriff’s deputy in Thomas County, GA, and as the Chief of Police in Quitman, GA. After meeting his wife, Robin, who he met through her father William “Buddy” Smith, during his career in law enforcement, they married in 1986, started their family a few years later, and moved to the Atlanta area in 1991. After working in law enforcement for several years, Tim followed in his father’s footsteps, entering the trucking industry, where he worked diligently for many years to provide for his family. In 2006, he began working with Arkansas Best Freight, where he met many friends and worked for the next 18 years. He also enjoyed company events, such as competing at and showing support for his coworkers at the annual Georgia Truck Driving Championship; where he was proud to represent ABF. A true jack of all trades, in his spare time, he enjoyed activities such as fishing, metal detecting, and spending time with his friends and family. Tim was an avid enjoyer of bluegrass and loved to share his passion for music with his family. He also loved the guitar and spent many years of his life playing it. He would listen to a song and could just play it by ear. His musical abilities and talents were always on the rise as he recently started playing the mandolin and was in the middle of writing a book.
Tim loved his hometown of Pavo, GA, he was dedicated to and loved his family, and he was a dear friend to everyone he met. In everything he did, he always went the extra mile.
Tim is survived by his wife of 36 years, Robin (Smith) York of Thomasville, GA. Their children Hannah York of Los Angeles, California, Rebecca York (Drew) of Fayetteville, GA, Samuel York, of Thomasville, GA, Levi Alday (Kourtney) of Acworth, GA, Grandchildren Mckenzie Alday, Addison Alday, Livi Alday, of Acworth, GA.
