Dr. Tom Jacobs, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, went to Heaven on January 23, 2024. The youngest son of Oyer and Era Jacobs, he was born in Haines City, Florida. Tom knew from the age of 16 that his life calling would be to serve the Lord as a pastor. He met his wife, Jane Hall, and served as president of the Baptist Student Union while working on his undergraduate degree at the University of South Florida. He served in the Air Force as a chaplain assistant before going to seminary. He received his Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctorate of Ministry from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Tom pastored churches in Ariton, Alabama, Lake Wales, Florida, Sanford, Florida, and Sylvester, Georgia before becoming the Pastor to Senior Adults at the First Baptist Church of Thomasville where he served until he retired after over 41 years of ministry.
Throughout his life, Tom was also actively involved in his local community and served in civic organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and was the PTA president when his children were in elementary school. Tom also served on state committees for the Georgia Baptist Convention and was a Homeland Security Chaplain for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation under Gov. Sonny Perdue.
Tom is survived by his wife Jane of 56 years, daughter Amy (Chris) Reinhardt, sons Chad (Lisa) Jacobs and Greg (Barbie) Jacobs and Grandpa to Ben, Adam, Eli, Nicholas, Jacob and Rachel. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Oyer and Era Jacobs and his brothers Hubert Jacobs and Ross Jacobs. He is also survived by his sister, Foy Sears and his brother, Dellon Jacobs.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11 am at the First Baptist Church of Thomasville and will be officiated by Rev. Paul Ballard and Rev. Mark Sickling. Visitation with the family will precede the service at 10 am. Following the service, the burial will be at Sardis Baptist Church, Glenwood, Georgia.
