Listen to Obituary

Jack Harper, a beloved father, husband, and cherished member of his community, passed away on January 23, 2026. He was born on November 9, 1952, in Baxley, GA, to the late John David Harper and Lila Maxine Haynes Harper.

Jack was a man of many passions. A dedicated member of Coolidge Baptist Church since childhood, he carried his faith throughout his life. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, traveling to locations such as Alaska, the Mediterranean, and Spain. His love for service continued in his career; Jack worked as a Train Master with CSX for 35 years, becoming a respected figure in the railroad industry. His leadership extended to the community, where he served as the Mayor of Coolidge for four years. Jack found joy in his family and the great outdoors; whether fishing or traveling, he cherished times spent at the beach and in the mountains. His fondness for woodworking and working on the farm allowed him to connect with nature and express his creativity. He also held a special place in his heart for Germany, which he often enjoyed visiting.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Harper; children Tommy Harper (Kristie), Chris Harper (Mandy), Susan Gerald (Steve), Julia Fruchtl, and Sandra Deas; grandchildren Kyle Harper, Noah Harper, Emily Harper, Sophie Harper, Nicholas Gerald, Ryan Fruchtl, Jake Fruchtl, Tayler Deas, and Hannah Barnes; siblings Dan Harper (Dean) and Don Harper followed by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, JD Harper and Maxine Harper, and siblings Maxie Arnold, Johnnie Harper, Gary Harper, Martha Montgomery, Jay Harper, and Jimmy Harper.

A service will be held on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 1 pm at Coolidge Baptist Church, followed by a private family graveside service at Big Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm prior to the service.
