Services for Tommy Daniel Ragan, 83 of Cairo will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Trinity Primitive Baptist Church. His son, Tommy Daniel Ragan, Jr., will officiate and interment will follow at the church cemetery. Mr. Ragan passed away January 18, 2023 at Archbold Hospital. Born March 24, 1939 in Cairo, he was the son of the late Grover Ragan and Annie Harrell Ragan. He was married to Betty Jean Massey Ragan, who survives. He blazed trail for the Iditarod, helped build the Alaskan Pipeline and was there when the first barrel came off. He drove the Al-Can highway over 80 times round trip. He worked in the north slopes of Alaska at Prudo Bay, all the way down to the Florida Everglades and everywhere in between. As an avid sportsman, he hunted bear, moose and elk. He loved saltwater fishing and fresh water fishing in Tampa. He loved to play golf. Tommy served in the United States Navy, loved his country and family. Other survivors include his son, Tommy Daniel Ragan, Jr (Dill) and wife Virginia of Jacksonville, Fl., step-son, Bobby McAuley of Lockhart, Texas, step-daughter, Peggy McAuley Ford (Larry) Of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren, Nathaniel Franklin Dill, Brook Colnan (Ryan), Brandee Griner (Jim), Maggie McAuley-Ford and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by stepson, Tommy McAuley; son, Troy David Ragan (Dill); brothers, GW Ragan, Harold Ragan and sisters, Kaye Ulm and Valda Johnson.
