Tony Lamar Howell, of Thomasville, passed away May 28, 2022 at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta Ga. He was born and raised in Bainbridge GA July 15, 1940, to the late Clyde W. Howell and Lessie V. Murkerson Howell and was married for 44 years to the late Linda J. Luke Howell of Thomasville.
He attended Bainbridge High School and was an honor graduate of the class of 1958. He began his college tenure at Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton GA and transferred to the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Education in 1962. Mr. Howell was awarded a fellowship to continue at the University earning a Master of Education degree in 1963. He was a Vo-Ag teacher for three years in the Decatur and Houston County schools. In 1966 he joined the Georgia Cooperative Extension Service serving as an extension agent and director in seven counties throughout the State of GA. He retired in 2000 from the Extension Service and worked as a project manager at Duchem Industries for 6 years. In addition to a career with the extension service, he was a swine breeder, premix salesman, and row crop farmer. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by four children, Nancy Howell of Valdosta, Deborah Duford of Newnan, Dana Carter (Derek) of Bonaire, and Raymond Hale of Jemison AL. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Brandi Mask, Allan Duford, Taylor Alvarez, Tylor Duford, Laycee Williams, Jeremy Hale, Dustin Greenway, Sarah Eloff, Jason Alan Hale, and 18 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Linda J. Howell of Thomasville, two sons, Tony Lamar Howell, Jr. of Tifton and Randolph Alan Hale of Birmingham AL, one brother, William Franklin (Billy) Howell of Bainbridge, and one grandchild, Chasity Leah Long.
A family graveside service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville, GA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tony Lamar Howell Jr. Scholarship Fund at Abraham Baldwin College, ABAC 13, 2802 Moore Highway, Tifton GA 31793
