Services for Truitt Miles Beatty, 88, of Boston will be held Sunday, April 29, 2012, at 3:00PM at Barwick Baptist Church where he was an active member. Rev. Elbert Channel will officiate and interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Pike, Cory Pike, Jeremy Pike, Max Beatty, Tanner Sauls and Kyle Fiveash. Mr. Beatty passed away April 25, 2012 at his residence surrounded by the love of all his family. He was one week shy of his 89th birthday. Born on May 05, 1923 in Boston, Ga, he was the son of the late Oscar Walter Beatty and Verda Mae Ayers Beatty. He was married to Sarah Frances Bishop for 52 years, who preceded him in death and then he married Evelyn Socks Beatty, who also preceded him in death. Mr. Beatty was a retired chief petty officer from the U.S. Navy, where he served as a hospital medical corpsman. After a distinguished naval career, he went on to work as a military consultant for Mutual of Omaha with numerous awards and commendations. Mr. Beatty served during World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. During World War II, he served on board the Willie P. Biddle in North Africa and Sicily in 1942 and 1943 and in the Marshall Island and Guam in 1944. During the Korean conflict, he was awarded a gold leaf cluster. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fish fry's with his family and friends. . Mr. Beatty was gentle in spirit and kind in nature and leaves a rich heritage of beautiful memories to his family and friends Survivors include his son Fred Beatty of Jacksonville, FL; daughters, Kathy Beatty Pike of Jacksonville, Fl., Janet Beatty Sauls and Tammy Beatty Clark both of Boston, Ga.; grandchildren Marie Beatty, Ryan Pike, Cory Pike, Jeremy Pike, Max Beatty, Courtney Clark Fiveash, Kendall Clark, Jenna Clark, Kaitlyn Grace Mitchell, and Tanner Beatty Sauls; great grandsons Caden Beatty, Caden Fiveash Konnor Fiveash and Kaser Fiveash; half-brothers Wayne Beatty of Alabama, Randall Beatty of Cairo, Ga., Darryl Beatty of Thomasville, Ga. and Alvin Beatty of Boston, Ga.; half-sister Shirley Beatty McNaney of Rome, Ga.; and bother-in-law Bruce Smith of North Carolina and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by son Terry Miles Beatty; an infant daughter Linda Joyce Beatty; brothers Kenneth Beatty, Jack Beatty; and sisters Emily Beatty Pennington and Nancy Beatty Smith.
