Vance W. Jenkins, 84, of Thomasville, passed away at his home Friday, June 14, 2003. The son of James Henry Jenkins, Jr. and Harriet E. Wheeler Jenkins, he was born in Thomas County on October 30, 1918. He retired from CXS railroad after 42 years of service. Mr. Jenkins was of the Methodist faith a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, and Thomasville Masonic Lodge NO. 369. He is survived by his wife Geneva Jenkins; his son Jimmy Jenkins of Weeki-Wachi, Fl; a daughter Faye Bridges Carver of Moultrie, Ga; step-daughters Brenda K. Griffin of Tallahassee, Terry B. Harper and Cynthia A. Edwards both of Camilla, Ga. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law James Ira and Jean Jenkins of Lakeland, Fl, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Jenkins, a sister Nell Jenkins Leach and a brother James Harvey Jenkins. Pallbearers will be Franklin Boone Leach, Jr., Mike Bridges, Mark Bridges, Steve Edwards, Joseph Harper, Jr., and Justin Griffin. Honorary pallbearers will be Pascal Jones, Guy Slappey, David Roberts and retired employees from CSX. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM on Sunday afternoon at Allen & Allen Funeral Home. Services will be Monday June 16, at 3:00 PM at Allen & Allen Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southwest Ga., 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, Ga. 31792.
