Funeral services for Vassie Wilma Yarbrough will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Allen & Allen Funeral Chapel with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Lee Waller will officiate. Mrs.Yarbrough died December 27, 2004 at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman.Born on March 13, 1908 in Barwick Ga., she was the daughter of the late Walter Scott and Vassie Eugenia Boles Duncan. She was married to Herschel Austin Yarbrough who precedes her in death.She was a member at Dawson Street Baptist Church and past member of Coolidge Baptist Church. Mrs.Yarbrough was a retired school teacher with the Thomas County School System after being in education for 30 years. Her first years being in one room school houses in Patten, Ga., Ty-Ty, Ga.. She later taught at Coolidge Elementary School, Central High School and Garrison Pilcher Elementary School. During her teaching career, Mrs. Yarbrough was very active in the school PTA and held office in the Thomas Co. Education Assoc. She was an adult sunday school teacher, bible school teacher and active in WMU and Keen-Agers at Dawson St. She enjoyed many hobbies such as reading, sewing, crossword puzzles, gardening and raising many beautiful flowers. She is survived by daughters, Dale Dorman of Athens, Ga and Kay Browning and husband Gene of Madison, Fl., granddaughter, Kim Whigham and husband Alan of Madison, Fl., and greatgrandson, Benjamin Taylor Whigham. Sister-in-laws, Jewel Y.Barwick of Thomasville, Annie Lou Duncan of Patten, Esther Duncan Long of Thomasville, Maydelle Duncan of Valdosta, and brother and sister-in-law John and Thelma Yarbrough of Jacksonville, Fl.. She is preceeded in death by brothers, Ralph Duncan, L.W. Duncan, Elbert Duncan, Buford Duncan, Francis Duncan and sisters, Edna Hutchinson, Ruth Carrithers, Maye Duncan and Kathleen Scott. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff at the following facilities for the loving care given Mrs. Yarbrough during her residence there: The Suites of Woodleaf Assisted Living, Southern Pines Retirement Inn and Presbyterian Home of Quitman.
