A memorial Services for Velma E. Miller of Thomasville is at 2:00PM, Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Plantation Manor. A private graveside service will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Ms. Miller died Sept. 17 at Plantation Manor. Born August 6, 1911 in Boonville, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Prentiss G. and Mattie Boren Miller. She was a member of the Religious Society of Friends Quaker. Ms. Miller was a graduate of Boston High School, Georgia State Woman?s College in Valdosta in 1934, and Florida State University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and in 1959 with a Masters of Arts Degree. She was an educator for 35 years teaching in Brooks, Grady and Thomas Counties including Thomasville City School. She also taught at North Georgia College in Dahlonega and the University of Alberta in Canada. She served as an Art Education Coordinator for Thomasville City School System. She was a member of Thomasville-Thomas County Retired Educators and Georgia Retired Educators Association. She served as vice president of Georgia Art Education Association was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an honor society in education and she contributed prose and poetry to both literary and journalistic publications. Survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Robert Braddy of Thomasville and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Leona Groover and Jewell Judy Miller Strickland. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
