Services for Vera Jordan Maxwell of Thomasville are at 2:00PM on Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at First United Methodist Church. Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor & Rev. Bob Dixon will officiate with interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Maxwell died November 3, at her residence. Born November 19, 1917 in Sumter Co., Ga., she was the daughter of James Gordon & Lilla Kilcrease Jordan. She received her elementary and high school education in Sumter Co., GA., and graduated from Georgia Southwestern College. She attended Asbury College and received her B. S. Degree from Georgia State College for Women and Master's Degree in Library Science from Florida State University. She taught school in Georgia schools in Crawford County, Byron, Jordan High School in Columbus, and Thomasville Junior Hight School. She was Chief Librarian at VA Domiciliary and Birdwood Junior College/Thomas County Community College. She served as President of Peach County Education Association, Thomasville Teacher's Association, Jerger School PTA, Killarney Queen Garden Club, Junior Woman's Club, Thomasville Woman's Club, Woman's Missionary Society, First United Methodist Church Keenagers, and Sue McTier Sunday School Class. She held offices in District and State Woman's Club, served on Salvation Army Advisory Board, United Way Board, Rose Festival Planning Committee, two-terms Representative Silver Haired Legislature. She was a corporate member of Archbold Medical Center. She was a member of John B. Gordon United Daughters of the Confederacy, First United Methodist Church where she served on the Board of Trustees and on the Administrative Board. She was listed in Who's Who of American Women, 1975-76, and Outstanding Educators of America, 1971. She is survived by her husband and business partner since 1951, Robert Roscoe Maxwell of Maxwell Sheet Metal Works Co., Inc.; children Elaine Maxwell Patrick of Marietta, Pam Maxwell Wright of Thomasville and Lee Robert Bobby Maxwell of Thomasville; son-in-law, Jeff Patrick and daughter-in-law, Karen Merritt Maxwell; grandchildren, John L. Wright, III, Hannah Elaine Wright, Adam Maxwell Patrick, and Jordan Kinsley Maxwell; brother & sisters, Blakely Jordan of St. Claire, Michigan and Deerfield Beach, Fla., Dorothy Dot Sanders of Thomasville, GA., and Betty Johnson of Villa Rica, GA., and other family too many to mention.
