Virginia Shippey Waters

Services for Virginia Shippey Waters, of Thomasville will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, July 29, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bishop Ben Smith will officiate and interment will follow at Boston City Cemetery. Ms. Waters passed away July 25 at Rose City Health and Rehab. Born December 16, 1925 in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Frances Shippey, Sr and Josie Lee Threkeld Shippey. On January 22, 1949 in Colquitt County, she married William Walter Waters, who preceded her in death. She received a 4 year degree from ABAC and taught periodically. She was awarded the Silver Beaver and the Silver Fawn from the Boy Scouts and a Gold Star because she was a mother of a fallen Vietnam Veteran and she volunteered at the VA Hospital in Hampton, Virginia. Her son, William W. Waters, Jr was a United States Marine that was killed in Vietnam. She is also preceded in death by daughter, Shannon F. Waters and grandson, Matthew Waters. She is survived by daughter, Joyce Gaynelle Waters Shepley of Santaquin, Utah; son, Edwin Stuart Waters of Suffolk, Virginia; brother, Edwin Frank Shippey, Jr of Florida and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
