Walter E. Van Heiningen

A memorial service for Walter E. Van Heiningen, 59, of Thomasville is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Allen and Allen Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Murray and the Rev. Daniel Smoak officiating. Mr. Van Heiningen passed away March 7, 2007 at his home. Born May 1, 1947, in Queens, New York, he was the son of the late Cornelis and Albertine Krohn Van Heiningen. Mr. Van Heiningen was a local lawyer, who had experience in major areas of practice dealing with Criminal Defense and Domestic and Personal injury. He attended Cornell University and he graduated from Albany Junior College, Georgia Southwestern College and the University of Georgia School of Law. In 1980 he was appointed to Special Assistant by the Attorney General to represent the Department of Human Resources, and the Division of Mental Health and Mental Retardation through Southwestern State Hospital. He was Chairman of the State Health Planning Review Board and he was a member of the Thomas County, Georgia, and American Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and he was on the State Health Planning Review Board. Survivors include his son, LCpl. Walter E. Van Heiningen, III of Al Asad, Iraq; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca K. and David Paul Wilson of Mandeville, La.; grandchildren, Hannah R. Wilson and Emma R. Wilson; brother, Jan J. Van Heiningen of Va. Beach, Va.; sister, Carol V. Norden of Smithtown, N.Y.; nieces and nephews-in-law, Janice N. and William Mangino of Smithtown, N.Y. and Nancy N. and Michael Chiappis of Lynbrook, N.Y.; nephew, H. Peter Norden III of Smithtown, N.Y.; great nieces, Lara Mangino and Hannah Chiappisi; and great nephews, Aaron Mangino and Randin Chiappisi. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Georgia School of law, Athens, Ga., 30602 or to the Thomasville Public Library, 201 N. Madison St., Thomasville, Ga. 31792.
