Graveside services for Walter Sawyer, 76, of Thomasville will be at 10:00AM on Monday, July 8, 2002 in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Spencer and Rev. Jerry Lancaster will officiate. Pallbearers are Earl Bennett, Guy Ellis, Bill Oppenheim, Heyward Ragan, Ernie Mogan, Trip Force, Carson Pate and Bob Gelvin. Mr. Sawyer died, Friday, July 5, 2002. Born May 20, 1926 in New Brockton, Ala., he was the son of the late Richard and Gladys Marsh Sawyer. He was married in 1957 to Betty Spell Sawyer who survives. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomasville. Mr. Sawyer was a Liberty National Life Insurance Agent for 25 years. Following retirement in 1988 he enjoyed family activities and playing golf. He was a kind and gentle man, loved and revered by his family; respected and admired by his friends. Other survivors include a daughter & son-in-law, Beth & Allen Ragan of Americus; son & daughter-in-law, Richard & Kristan Sawyer of Atlanta; a brother & sister-in-law, Tom & Andrea Sawyer of Albany, GA; grandchildren, Amanda & Ansley Ragan of Americus, Walker & Cooper Powell and Aaron Sawyer of Atlanta,. There will be no formal visitation, however, the family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service. The family has requested donations may be made to the Alzheimers Assoication, c/o Plantation Manor, 220 Park Ave., Thomasville, Ga 31792.
