Wesley Gordon Benton

Funeral services for Wesley Gordon Benton, age 82 of Ochlocknee will be at 11:30 AM on Tuesday June 16, 2015 at Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church. Rev. Keith Lairsey and Rev. Walter Singletary will officiate and internment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Greg Arline, Edward Benton, Larry Benton, Tim Griner, Odell Griner, and Shannon Banks. Mr. Benton died peacefully at his residence on Saturday June 13, 2015 with his family by his side. He was born on Nov. 20, 1932 to Mr. H. P. and Lizzie Busbee Benton. On March 20, 1957 in Tallahassee, he married Sandra Jean Ward. Mr. Benton graduated from Ochlocknee Consolidated High School, Ochlocknee, GA. After high school he served 4 years in the Air Force. He received his Bachelor Degree in education from the University of Georgia and his Master’s Degree in education from Florida State University. Mr. Benton returned to his alma mater in Ochlocknee and served as principal for three years before moving to Orlando, FL. In Orlando he passed the Florida Real estate exam and became a licensed broker and owned and operated Benton Realty Company for forty years. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra; two sons, Mark Benton of Orlando, FL and Bert Benton of Ochlocknee; four grandsons, Ryan (Whitney) Benton, Zachary Benton, Jeremy Benton and Ethan Benton all of Columbus, Ohio and 2 great grandsons, Weston and Logan Benton of Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving are two sisters, Marie (Jack) Kirby, Aiken, South Carolina and Evelyn Roberts of Destin, FL and two brothers J. L. (Winnie) Benton of Greenville, South Carolina, and Eugene (BJ) Benton of Bridgeman, Michigan and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Myrtice Bloodworth, Deoris Vinson, Ruby Loyd and Margaret Lairsey and one brother Albert Benton.
