William Michael Mullen, 87, of Thomasville, Georgia, and longtime resident of Denver, Colorado, passed away at Archbold Grady Hospital on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Bill pursued studies in Chemistry during both high school and college. Throughout his life, he lived in six different cities, maintaining lifelong connections with his Sigma Chi fraternity brothers. His interests were as diverse as they were deep—he loved coffee, snow skiing, Westerns, elk hunting, golf, theology, and apologetics. Above all, he cherished studying and deepening his understanding of the Word of God. His appreciation for old hymns, especially those that clearly proclaimed the gospel, was a testament to his unshakeable conviction.
Bill turned to Jesus thirty-five years ago following a profound conversion experience precipitated by a high-speed skiing accident that required an emergency airlift off a mountain. This life-changing moment marked the beginning of his unwavering spiritual journey. He regarded John MacArthur as his primary spiritual mentor, immersing himself in his teachings through broadcasts and a cassette lending library. R.C. Sproul's theological insights deeply influenced his love for Scripture. Together, their teachings formed the cornerstone of Bill's early spiritual development.
His faith was not confined to study alone; it propelled him into action. He traveled on missions to the Philippines, Argentina, and Uganda, driven by a deep commitment to serve others. In 2012, while working with Global Refuge, he participated in training fifteen medics to educate communities on malaria prevention, equipping them with the skills to diagnose and treat malaria in both villages and surrounding areas. During that mission, he also met with over twenty-five village pastors, encouraging them to remain steadfast in teaching and preaching God's Word. His passion for spreading the gospel was evident not only overseas but also in his everyday life, where he frequently engaged with strangers, offering prayers and sharing his profound love for Jesus.
Bill placed his trust solely in Christ, embracing salvation through repentance and faith in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He was an active member of Dawson Street Baptist Church, where he found great joy in participating in the Men's Ministry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his nephew, and his sister. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, his stepson and daughter-in-law, his stepdaughter, and seven beloved grandchildren. His legacy of faith, service, and love for Scripture lives on in the hearts of those who knew him.
