William Jay Hungate

Services for William Jay Hungate beloved husband and father, are at 4:00PM on Thursday, October 23, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Thomasville. The Rev. Mike Jones and the Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor will officiate and interment will be at the Hicks family cemetery. Mr. Hungate passed away at his residence on Monday afternoon, October 20, 2003. ?Bill? was born on September 7, 1923 to L. Blanche Rigdon and V. Beryl Hungate in Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended schools in Fountaintown and Shelbyville, Indiana, and graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1947. Mr. Hungate served in the Pacific Theater as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After the service, he enjoyed attending Marine Corps reunions throughout his life. Bill was a real estate broker. Survivors include Bill?s wife Charlotte Hicks Hungate of Thomasville; his son and daughter-in-law, W. Eric and Carolyn Hungate of Austin, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Richard Gay of Issaquah, Washington; his stepdaughter and her husband, Kate and Steve Weisenborn of Thomasville, and stepsons Tim Drew of Thomasville and William Sharpe of Carrollton, Georgia; grandchildren, Adrianne Monreal and husband, Joseph of San Antonio, Texas; Stephanie Gay of Altdorf, Switzerland; Aaron Hungate of Cheney, Washington, Allison Hungate of Berkeley California and eight step-grandchildren in Georgia and Texas. Upon his retirement Bill moved from Indiana to Thomasville in the early 1990?s. He embraced the ?South? with his whole heart. Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomasville. He was active in the Sons of the Confederacy, Thomasville Landmarks and the Historical Society. Mr. Hungate treasured the many wonderful friends he had made who made him feel so welcome and loved. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 975, Thomasville, GA 31799 or to the Thomasville Landmarks, P.O. Box 1285, Thomasville, GA 31799 or to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, GA 31792. The family will receive friends at home, 123 Tuxedo Dr., Thomasville on Wednesday evening from 5-8PM. Visitors may sign the online guest register at www.allenfh.com .
