William Mccollum

Services for William McCollum of Thomasville are at 11:00AM on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church where he was a member. The Rev. Bill Lee will officiate. Dr. McCollum died July 26, at Archbold Memorial Hospital. He was born September 27, 1922 in Thomasville. He was the son of the late Paul J. and Lola Smith McCollum. On December 21, 1948 in Thomasville he married Carolyn Eidson McCollum who survives. Dr. McCollum was a Captain in the Army Air Force and was involved in the Army of Occupation in Germany as a Flight Surgeon. He served from 1946 until 1948. Dr. McCollum graduated from Thomasville High School, University of Georgia and Medical College of Georgia. He served his residency in August, GA and Durham, NC in Pathology and came to Thomasville in 1958 as Pathologist at Archbold Memorial Hospital and was the only Pathologist for 15 years when he returned. He retired in 1987. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order at the University of Georgia and Alpha Kappa Kappa Order at the Medical College of Georgia. He served as a Thomasville City Commissioner for 6 years, was a former member of the Rotary Club, served on the Library Board when new library was built and served in various other civic organizations. Other survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Margaret McCollum of Thomasville, daughters, Murray McCollum, Pam McCollum Mills both of Boulder, CO, grandchildren, Julie and Marie McCollum and William Daniel Mills and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, E. P. McCollum, P. James McCollum, sisters, Betty Tyson and Anna Mae Fleming. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
