William Timmie Sheffield

August 5, 1923 — January 1, 2023

William “Tim” Timmie Sheffield, 99, of Thomasville, GA passed away on January 1, 2023. Mr. Sheffield was born August 5, 1923, to the late Willie T. Sheffield and Mattie Lee Brock Sheffield in Irwin County, GA. He and his first wife, Ruby, had two children, Mack and David. He was later remarried on December 19, 1981 to Florrie “Esther” Crawford Hurst at Merrillville Baptist Church. He and Esther enjoyed time with many family and friends and making new friends everywhere they went. Tim was well known for leaving an impression on people that made you feel like you had always known him and always could tell you a great story or make you laugh at a joke. He was loving and loved with his whole heart and when he told you he loved you, you knew he meant it. They weren’t just words.
Tim was a World War II Veteran and served his country honorably. Though many stories weren’t always shared about what happened during that time, we always knew he served with honor and were humbled at the thought that he was a part of “The Greatest Generation”. His later years, he served the Southwest GA community by working as an LP Driver, aka “your local gas man”. Through this career he worked with many companies such as, AmeriGas and Plantation Propane. Of course, everywhere he went, he continued to build relationships and make new friends. In his off time, Tim and Esther enjoyed fishing, singing in the church choir, canning vegetables, gardening, visiting the local nursing homes and preaching, watching wrestling and of course, talking on the phone with all the friends he made over the years.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther; son, Mack; brothers, James E. Sheffield of Moultrie, GA, and Ed Sheffield; sisters, Hazel Toler of Macon, GA, and Catherine Howard. He leaves behind many generations that loved him from the Sheffield and Hurst families, all the way down to his great, great grandkids. We all will miss our Pappaw and Uncle Tim and look forward to the day when we’ll see him again.

A special Thank You to the caregivers and residents of Legacy Village at Plantation Manor for loving on and taking care of Mr.Sheffield. We appreciate all you!
