Funeral services for Rev. William T. Cain, Sr., 90, of Thomasville, are Monday May 16, 2011 at 2:00 PM at West Side Baptist Church in Thomasville. Rev. Randy Blow will officiate and interment will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Rev. Cain died Saturday May 14, 2011 at Suites at Woodleaf in Thomasville.
Born March 8, 1921, in Terrell County, he was the son of the late Walter and Alla Josephine Bryant Cain. He was preceded in death by one daughter, by his first wife Evelyn Warren Cain, and his grandson Chad Johnson.
He grew up in Webster, Grady and Mitchell counties, farming with his family. After his marriage, he moved to Thomasville, looking for a different type of job.
Rev. Cain was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in 1952, and spent the next thirty-plus years serving as pastor of several Baptist Churches in south Georgia and north Florida, most recently at West Side Baptist of Thomasville. He retired, but continued to be interim pastor for churches who needed him. He also worked as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service until his retirement in 1980. He was a veteran of World War II, having been part of the Philippine Occupation Force in the Pacific Theater.
Rev. Cain had a lifelong love of learning, especially history, and took great pride in his rose garden, which he tended regularly. He was also an avid sports fan, especially of the Atlanta Braves and the Atlanta Falcons.
Rev. Cain is survived by his wife, Rosalyn DeMott Cain, of Thomasville; daughter Brenda Keith Wahlig of Riverdale, GA; daughter Margaret Thomas Reidy of Clinton, MD; daughter Becky Wayne Johnson of Thomasville; son William Renee Cain of Dahlonega, GA; granddaughter Melissa Terence Huffman of Indian Head, MD; grandson Patrick William Reidy of Columbia, MD; granddaughter Amanda Wahlig of Washington, D.C.; granddaughter Amanda Jon Sheppard of Statesboro, GA; granddaughter Christy Johnson of Thomasville; grandsons William Cain III and Nicholas Cain of Dahlonega; great-grandson Cayden Singletary of Thomasville; brother Clarence T. Cain of Lexington, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the charity of your choice in honor of Rev. Cain's life.
Visitation is Sunday, May 15, at Allen and Allen Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m.
