Wilma was born June 13, 1928 in Cincinnati Ohio to the late Edward Kohake and Grace Kohake Basnett. After graduating from Woodward High School in Cincinnati, she spent her working years as a bookkeeper/secretary in Cincinnati. In 1969, the Vainer family moved to Dunedin, Florida, where she continued to work at Innisbrook Resort (Tarpon Springs) and Bay Harbor Inn (Tampa). She retired from Bay Harbor Inn in 1993, and the following year moved up to Thomasville to be near her daughter and her family. With her husband, Wilma was a volunteer as a reader in Mrs. Boo Ivey’s kindergarten class at Scott Elementary School and would also help out during the Candy Sales at Scott. She loved being part of her daughter’s life! Wilma is survived by daughter Mary Alice Friesen and husband Larry; grandsons Matthew and his wife Mandy, Jon and his wife Ginger and their daughter, Mary Margaret, and Luke and his wife, Julie. She is also survived by her two sisters, Rose and Bertie, and brother, Dave and their families. Wilma loved her family and enjoyed being part of weddings, graduations, reunions, soccer games, etc. She was so very proud of her grandsons and, when able, attended all of their academic and sports events! She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Vainer, Jr., her son Charles Edward Vainer, III; sisters, Marie and Alice; and brother Francis. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) in Wilma’s name.
