Winslow Dudley Moore, Sr.

Services for Winslow Dudley Moore, Sr., 93 of Thomasville will be held 10am, Friday, August 12, 2011, at Dawson Street United Methodist Church. Rev. Betty Lou Miller and Rev. Carl Howard will officiate and interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. August 8, 2011, Mr. Moore was blessed to pass away peacefully as he wished, with his son by his side at Camellia Gardens. Born July 14, 1918 in Thomasville, he was the son of the late Hugh J. Moore and Madie Wade Moore. He was driven by his love for church and family. More than 50 years of service were spent as a devoted member of Dawson Street United Methodist Church where he was known as being a "quiet disciple" serving on various committees including treasurer of The Men's Bible Class and Head Usher. He proudly served in the US Army Air Force during World War II and founded Dudley Moore Awning and Floorcovering in 1958 which is still a prominent local business. Survivors include son W. Dudley Moore, Jr. and wife Rebecca of Thomasville, stepson Pat Kirkley and wife Marilyn of Thomasville, stepson Carl Kirkley of Atlanta; grandchildren John Dudley Moore, Aulston Collier Moore, Jimmy Kirkley, Matt Kirkley, Steven Kirkley and wife Nichole, Talia King and husband Travis and great grandchild Elliott Kirkley; brother Thomas A. Moore and wife Mary of Orlando, Fl; nephew Robert Andrews and wife Emily, niece Mary Jane Andrews, niece DeAnne Carson and husband Raymond; and a beloved family friend he loved like a daughter Penny Cormalis and husband Glenn. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by brother Hugh J. Moore, Jr.; sister Mary Moore Andrews; and special friend Allyne Hubbard. Memorial contributions may be made to Dawson Street United Methodist Church, 1132 Dawson St., Thomasville, GA 31792.
