Services for Wyatt Holmes Butler W. H. are at 2:00PM on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at Salem Baptist Church in Pavo, GA. The Rev. Joseph Dunn will officiate and interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of Salem Baptist Church. Mr. Butler died July 25 at Magnolia Manor-South Nursing Center in Moultrie, GA. He was born January 30, 1918 the son of Wyatt Homer Butler and Hattie Elizabeth Sanders Butler. His parents died when he was young and he was reared by his Aunt and Uncle W. Carl Gainey of Reno, GA. Mr. Butler graduated from Rabun Gap Nacooche High School in Rabun Gap, GA and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and received an associate degree in religious education and church music. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II in India and Burma and in Japan during the Korean conflict. In 1951 he married Ida Vinson Butler who survives. He served in churches as director of education and music in Texas, Alabama, Florida and Georgia and also served as deacon in Louisiana and Georgia for many years. Mr. Butler retired from Sears Roebuck in 1984 after 16 years. He also worked as part-time greeter at Walmart for several years after retiring. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Scott Ramey of Augusta, GA, son, Roger W. Butler of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchild, Stephen M. Bright and step grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Ramey all of Augusta, GA.
