Our History

Our History

Treat others as you would like to be treated has always been the goal of Allen & Allen Funeral Home. To us those are not just words, but a way of conducting ourselves. By treating others, as we would like to be treated, we must constantly be on guard to convey compassion and feeling into our services.

In 1984, Rudolph and Darrell Allen purchased Dekle Funeral Chapel from Olen Dekle. This firm has been in existence since 1947 and Rudolph Allen had been a part of this funeral home since its beginning. In 1987, we were able to purchase Kirkland Croy Hughes Funeral Home from Irvin Croy. This firm has been operating since 1958. The two facilities were operated separately until 1992. After renovation of the Kirkland Croy Hughes location, we merged the two facilities into our current facility.

Through the years, we have offered a full range of monument services. We have all types of monuments, bronze markers, colored stone, mausoleums, and stone cleaning. Computer drawings are now available, so that you may see what the stone will look like before it is processed.

With the purchase of Sunset Memorial Gardens in 1999, we added a cemetery to further complete our offerings. Sunset Memorial Gardens is a perpetual care cemetery. We have sections for below ground markers, upright markers, columbarium, and cremation gardens. To honor our veterans we have special section just for veterans and their spouses.

In order to meet the growing request for cremations, in the summer of 2001 we constructed a crematory. This is the only crematory within a 50-mile radius of Thomasville. We can now assure our cremation families that their wishes are being carried out as requested.
